Scoring the Tri BC Provincial Race Series

Athletes earn points based on their performance in each race. The point system, which has been designed by Triathlon B.C., takes into account the distance of the race and the relative difficulty of the course. Points are awarded on the basis of finish time only. If an athlete has completed four or more races as required, her/his Series point total equals the average of the points from his/her best four performances, including one of standard distance or greater. The only exception to this rule is in the case of the Provincial Triathlon Championships. If the number of points earned at that race is greater than an athlete’s fourth best (counting) performance, then the points from the Provincial Championships will be used instead of those from the fourth best (counting) race. (Your points from the Provincial championship (Peach Classic) can count twice.)

An athlete disqualified from more than one Series race is automatically disqualified from the Provincial Race Series.

Only Triathlon B.C. members are eligible for the Provincial Race Series. Each Triathlon B.C. member is automatically entered in the Provincial Race Series at no additional cost (atheletes are responsible for all applicable race entry fees). Any athlete joining Triathlon B.C. after completing one or more Series race may bring one performance (as a non-member) with her/him. It is such an athlete’s responsibility to make Triathlon B.C. aware of the performance to be included, either by email, letter, fax, or calling Triathlon B.C., or her/his zone rep.

An athlete’s age group for the Provincial Race Series is determined by her/his age on the date of the final Series race.

Statistics for the Provincial Race Series will be calculated by Triathlon B.C. and posted on its Web page: (http://www.wi.bc.ca/tribc/) shortly after each Series race. The Series standing will also be posted at each Series race. Medals and/or ribbons for the Series will be awarded to tenth place in each category (5 year intervals, plus an elite category for athletes holding a Triathlon B.C. elite athlete card); individual races will still have their own awards. At this time, we hope presentation of the Series awards will follow the final Series race (Kelowna). In addition, there are cash prizes in the elite category. These will be presented at the Triathlon B.C. Annual General Meeting.
