Notice to Parents & KOS Athletes

RE: KOS AGE GROUPS & Distances

In wake of some confusion regarding age groups and December 31 guidelines, please, be informed of the following:

• The KOS age ranges and distances were developed in 2002 by the National Federation (Triathlon Canada) to provide a cohesive, developmentally appropriate model for Junior multisport athletes.
• The rules are based on sound theories of social, physiological, and psychological development.
• Triathlon BC instated these rules in the Fall of 2002 after several races piloted the system throughout the 2002 season.

As with any systematic change in an organization, some confusion and complications are expected.  Thank you fo ryour patience through the development of this model structure for future generations of Triathletes!
