2003 New Balance Provincial Triathlon Race Series
Sanctioned by Triathlon British Columbia

Introduction

Triathlon BC is pleased to present the "2003 New Balance Provincial Triathlon Race Series". The Series will consist of 12 races, and athletes must complete (officially finish) at least four (4) of these races - including one of standard (Olympic) distance or greater distance, to qualify for Series awards. In addition for 2003, there is a New Balance Duathlon Race Series consisting of six events - click here for more information.

PLEASE NOTE: As it was not specified here that only the Vancouver Triathlon Olympic distance was part of the 2003 Triathlon series, we will be including the Vancouver Sprint distance for 2003. The points for that race are included here (Vanc Sprint) and the Overall and Final Finisher points below have now been updated. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  • Scoring system - please check any inconsistencies in the results and report to Tri-BC.

  • Scoring system will be the same as used in 2002, with the notable exception that we have standardized birth dates, to prevent changing age categories part-way through the season. This year, all ages will be calculated as of December 31, 2003.

  • Award every series finisher.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities to develop elite, espoir (under 23) and junior (15 to 19) athletes.
  • Provide the fairest scoring system that:
    • Handles strong fields.
    • Handles weak fields.
    • Provides a comparative scoring between each event.
    • Can be adjusted for severe weather conditions.
    • Handles any race distance.
    • Can calculate scores at five year increments.

Series Rules

It is required/recommended that all competitors in the series review the race series rules. The key rules are outlined below.

The construction of a new arena at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre has made it impossible to use the site for the Juan de Fuca Recreation Duathlon.  Therefore this race, originally scheduled for September 21, 2003 is cancelled.

The 2003 New Balance Duathlon Series will now consist of the remaining 5 races. Participants now will only need to complete 2 of these 5 races in order to qualify for the Series.

  • Must complete 2 of the 5 races.
  • Must be a Tri-BC member to qualify for series prizes or awards.
