Triathlon BC will contact all Finishers, re: prizes, soon!

Introduction

Triathlon BC is pleased to present the new "Junior Race Series"

The Triathlon Race Series will consist of 5 races. In order to be eligible to race as a Junior, participants must be between 16 and 19 years of age as of  December 31, 2006.

All Junior age group and Junior Elite races will follow KOS guidelines as established by Triathlon Canada and adopted by Triathlon BC.  To be eligible to race Junior Elite, all participants must hold a valid Junior Elite card issued by the recognized provincial or state governing body in their current place of residence.

All Junior age group and Junior Elite races will conform to Competition Rules established by ITU and adopted by Triathlon BC. Where a conflict exists between rules of International, National and Provincial governing bodies, the rules of the Provincial governing body will take precedence.

Athletes must complete (officially finish) at least two (2) of these races to qualify for Series awards.

* qualifying races reduced to two (2) from three (3) after cancellation of Big Horn Tri.

Triathlon Series Rules

All competitors in the series should review the race series rules. The key rules are outlined below:

  • Must complete 3 of the 5 races.

  • Must be a current TriBC member in good standing to qualify for series prizes or awards.

  • Must hold a current TriBC Junior Elite card to race in and qualify for prizes in the Jr Elite category.  Jr Elite cards are only issued at the beginning of the race season when applying for 2005-06 TriBC membership and are based on results in the previous race season.  Note: There are residency restrictions for TriBC Junior Elite cards. For more information, see 'Junior Elite' under Athlete Development.

  • Every series finisher (ie, the 3 of 5 races listed above are completed) will receive a series finishers award.

  • Scoring system will be determined by a reverse point system based on each participant's top 3 series finishes.  Any ties will be broken based on performance at the Provincial Junior Championship.  Any errors or omissions should be reported to TriBC as soon as possible after results and points are posted for each race.

  • Birthdates have standardized to prevent changing age categories partway through the season. Ages will be calculated as of December 31, 2006.

Race Series Objectives
The objectives of the Junior race series are to:
  • Promote participation in the sport of Triathlon throughout BC
  • Distribution of dates over race calendar (ie, May to September).
  • Award every series finisher.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities to develop elite, developing and age group youth (16 to 19 years old) athletes.
  • Provide the fairest scoring system that:
    • Handles strong fields.
    • Handles weak fields.
    • Provides a comparative scoring between each event.
    • Can be adjusted for severe weather conditions.
    • Handles any race distance.
    • Can calculate scores at five year increments.
  • Encourages members to have FUN!
