Provincial Race Series

The Provincial Race Series is a Triathlon Series that promotes competition and participation among all levels of athletes.  The Series events are carefully selected to maintain a high standard regardless of location.  Athletes must complete (officially finish) a minimum number of events to qualify to receive Series awards.

Please note athletes must be at least 18 years old to compete in the Series, as completion of an Olympic distance event is required.

    North Shore Sprint Triathlon, May 21
    SERIES DISTANCE: SPRINT

    Returning once again to the Provincial Race Series, the 23rd Annual North Shore Sprint Triathlon offers KOS distances from 6-15, Junior, Age group and Elite races.  Starting at the Ron Andrews Recreation Centre, participants complete a 740m swim, 19km bike and 5km run.  As the first race in the Provincial Race Series the run section of this course promises to be a challenge and offers an Elite draft legal race. Come to participate on May 21, 2012  and enjoy the sights of the beautiful North Shore in a safe environment.

    Subaru Shawnigan Lake Triathlon, May 27
    SERIES DISTANCE: OLYMPIC

    Canada's first outdoor long distance triathlon of the year provides a "Beautiful B.C." experience at Shawnigan Lake. The run on the Trans Canada trail is breathtaking, and no pavement pounding your legs! A true west coast experience and one of the most picturesque triathlons in the world.

    Gerick Sports Wasa Triathlon, June 10
    SERIES DISTANCE: OLYMPIC

    Join "voice of triathlon" Steve King and 1300 of your friends for a weekend of racing in the Canadian Rockies. The Gerick's Wasa Lake Triathlon is June 9-10 at Wasa Lake Provincial Park located just north of Cranbrook International Airport.  The Triathlon features a lake swim, a fast ride on new pavement, and a scenic run with lots of variety. Entry is limited to 825 olympic & sprint racers, 30 relay teams and 400 TriKids on race day. This race was full in 2011!

    Subaru Vancouver Triathlon, July 8
    SERIES DISTANCE: HALF

    This triathlon will be staged in the magnificent setting of the Spanish Banks Beaches with stunning views of the downtown Vancouver skyline and the picturesque North Shore Mountains.  This event promises to be the most beautiful urban triathlons you will ever experience!

    Point Grey Triathlon, July 22
    SERIES DISTANCE: SPRINT


    The beautiful UBC campus plays host to this popular mid-summer triathlon, the 6th stop on the Triathlon BC Provincial Race Series (Sprint Distance). Swim in the UBC Aquatic Centre’s outdoor pool, cycle along scenic Marine Drive, and run in the shade of Pacific Spirit Park. Options include sprint and short course triathlons, a duathlon, and a relay event. Professional organization, friendly volunteers, and of course, the beautiful course, have all made this event a favourite for new triathletes and seasoned vets alike.

    Kelowna Apple Triathlon, Aug 18/19
    SERIES DISTANCE: OLYMPIC

    Starting in the fresh clean Okanagan Lake, participants can enjoy a swim protected by logs booms.  The bike courses vary; racers can enjoy a flat course on Saturday and the hills of Knox Mountain on Sunday.  All racers will enjoy the scenery of Kelowna’s downtown and shores of Okanagan Lake in the run section. The Kelowna Apple Triathlon offers youth and teen races for ages 8-19 as well as Sprint, Olympic and relay distances.  A Just for Fun Run and an Aquathon are also included in this weekend.

    Vancouver Triathlon, September 3
    SERIES DISTANCE: SPRINT


    The 11th annual Vancouver Triathlon draws athletes of all abilities to compete in Olympic, Sprint and Relay distance events.  Held in scenic Stanley Park, this event is closed to vehicle traffic and provides breath-taking views on an amazing course.  This event is also an annual fundraiser for the World Wildlife Fund. New for 2012 is the addition of a 'Tri It' distance that will allow for everyone to 'give it a tri'.

    Race Series Objectives

    • Promote participation in the sport of Triathlon throughout BC.
    • Distribution of race dates over entire race calendar (March to September).
    • Representation of different race distances (Sprint, Standard/Olympic, Long Distance).
    • Strive to distribute Series events throughout BC, where there are a number of established events, including:
      • Vancouver Island
      • Okanagan
      • Kootenays
      • Lower Mainland
      • Northern BC
    • Include events that have a successful history and good track record with Triathlon BC, with respect to sanctioning, safety, organization, community / club support.
    • Encourage and provide opportunities to develop elite, U23 and Elite athletes.
    • Encourages members to have FUN!
    Rules & Regulations

    In order to bid for a Series event, organizer must have hosted events over two consecutive years, and have resolved all event payments with Triathlon BC.

    1. Competitors must be TRIBC members to qualify for Series points or awards.
    2. Points will not be awarded to competitors who are not TRIBC members at the time of an event.
    3. In order to receive prizing and/or garments, participants must complete 3 of 8 events to qualify as a Series finisher.  At least one event must be of Olympic Distance or longer.
    4. Ages are calculated as of December 31 each year to prevent changing categories partway through the Series.  The age categories are as follows:  18-19, 20-24, 25-29 … every five years to 80+.
    5. Every TRIBC member that is a Series finisher will receive a Series finisher’s award.

    Elite Series:

    1. Competitors must hold a valid TRIBC Elite card to be eligible for the Elite Series prizes.  (Note that there are residency restrictions to receive a TRIBC Elite card:  an athlete must be a permanent resident of BC for six (6) or more months.  BC Medical Care or other official documentation may be required as proof.)
    2. Points will not be awarded to competitors who are not TRIBC Elite members at the time of the event.

    Scoring:

    1. Every race is of equal weight.
    2. The points are awarded in each age group as follows:  1st - 30 points, 2nd - 25, 3rd -20, 4th – 18, 5th – 16, 6th – 15, 7th – 14 etc. down to 20th – 1 point.  Points are assigned based on overall finish in each age group but only TRIBC members will be awarded points.  ie. A TRIBC member who finishes 2nd in their age group will receive 25 points, even if 1st place is not a TRIBC member.
    3. Throughout the Series, points will be calculated and posted to this website.
    4. Any errors or omissions must be reported to TRIBC (info@tribc.org) within 2 weeks of points being posted for each race to guarantee correction.
