On September 8th, over 50 top provincial Youth and Junior athletes gathered at Vernon’s Kin Beach park to compete in the Paradigm Naturopathic Vernon Kids Triathlon, the final round of Triathlon BC’s  high Performance SuperSeries, and the designated Provincial Championship for Junior-aged competitors. “The BC SuperSeries exposes the athletes to racing, administration, and officials, all of which will improve their focus and performance as they advance to the international stage.” – Andrew Armstrong, Triathlon BC Technical Coordinator

The Race Series, powered by Canada’s Argon 18 Bicycles, is in its 4th year and consists of marquee events hosting Olympic-style draft legal competitions, catering to aspiring young performance pathway athletes between the ages of 13-23.

Last year’s Series runner-up, Gabrielle Bourgault-Kennaley (West Vancouver), clinched top spot with consistent and strong finishes in all four SuperSeries events this year, concluding the Series with 67 points and the overall 2019 SuperSeries’ Junior Female title.

Hailing from Kamloops, Maia Vitoratos, found herself finishing second in the 2019 Series, after strong performances in the North Shore Triathlon and Paradigm Naturopathic Vernon Kids Race.  This Kamloops Triathlon Club athlete concluded the Series with 56 points after competing in all four SuperSeries events.

Another consistent performer, Vernon TriMonster’s, Annika Ariano finished well at the North Shore Triathlon and the Kelowna Apple Triathlon, catapulting her to a well-deserved third place ranking in the Series.  Annika concluded the series with a total of 54 points.

Several familiar top-placing youth names from 2018 found themselves on the Junior Series podium rankings, including last year’s Youth Champion, Balance Point Racing athlete Lincoln Hoel (West Kelowna), who went on to take top spot on the Junior Male podium after consistent top place results at all four SuperSeries races in 2019.

Vernon TriMonsters Brody Wright and Jack Screen found themselves battling it out again in 2019 with consistent top placing finishes in all four races this season.  This year Brody managed to edge Jack out of the 2nd place rung by a mere 4 points.  Brody Wright concluded his strong season of racing with 69 points and Jack Screen’s consistent top-performance results saw him ending his season in 3rd place with 65 points.

2018 Female Youth Series Champion, Victoria resident and Kelly’s Kids triathlete, Jamie Harker, once again dominated the Women’s Youth Series.  Winning all four series events, Jamie found herself in top position as the overall Female Youth Series Champion with a total of 92 points for the series.

When asked what she enjoyed about the Super Series,  Victoria resident Heidi Henry stated “What I like best about the SuperSeries is that there are lots of opportunities to race, and the race courses are super exciting and fun.” Also representing Kelly’s Kids Triathlon Club, Heidi gave four consistent top performances and found herself in the runner-up position for in the Female Youth Series with a total of 69 points.

West Vancouver’s Sidney Clement put together solid performances at the North Shore Triathlon, and Victoria Youth Triathlon to finish the season in the Female Youth Series in third with 40 points.

In the Youth Male Series, Vernon TriMonster, Max Angove found himself in the championship spot after winning three races in the series.  Max’s wins at the North Shore Triathlon, Victoria Youth Triathlon and the Paradigm Naturopathic Vernon Kids Triathlon resulted in a final point tally of 92 points.

Exceleration Multisport and Triathlon athlete, Marcus Nguyen from Richmond raced in all four races in the series.  His solid performances in resulted a final point total of 77 and second spot in the overall Male Youth Series championships.

Consistent performances were also key for Vernon TriMonster, Luca Van de Vosse. Racing in all four series races, his performances at the North Shore Triathlon and Paradigm Naturopathic Vernon Kids Triathlon landed him in third spot.

Each of the Series Champions were awarded with gear and products from Triathlon BC partners Rudy Project, Jackroo and F2C Nutrition with Junior Series Champion’s receiving an Argon 18 racing bike!
