The 2020 season was anything but normal. Without question, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the endurance event environment hard. With 97% of Triathlon BC’s regularly sanctioned events cancelled, it’s fair to say the non-season was challenging and emotional for everyone, particularly the Race Directors who invested in their events and worked tirelessly in the hopes of bringing participants safe, exciting and memorable multisport competitions. Triathlon BC understands the challenges and hardships local event organizers have faced throughout the 2020 season, and empathize with every Race Director and LOC that planned to host an event, and the participants that were eager to test their mettle against themselves and others.
As we navigate through British Columbia’s Phase 3 Reopening, Triathlon BC is hopeful that events return in a modified manner in 2021, respecting the Provincial Health Office’s Orders and Return to Sport Guidelines, while meeting the needs of participants province wide.
To support our Race Directors, for the 2021 season, Triathlon BC will not be collecting sanction fees next season. Events with deposits from the 2020 season will have their fees credited and rolled over to the 2021 season, and reconciled against any day fees owing from their sanctioned events. Triathlon BC will also be offering small grants to regional events to help offset the cost of delivering events in 2021, in addition to offering advice in modifying events to meet current COVID standards.
To put your event date on our Provisional 2021 Calendar, please complete the 2021 Race Information Sheet, understanding that many events will be on a ‘pending’ status as you navigate through what may be a new municipality permitting process.
