2018 Draft Legal Domestic Race Calendar
The following calendar is compiled from the Provincial and National draft-legal events geared towards Junior, U23 and Elite Olympic pathway athletes. The progression along the podium pathway available in Canada is as follows:
1. Provincial Draft-Legal Events
2. National Development Series Events
3. Domestic CAMTRI Continental Cups
4. National Championships
5. Non-Canadian Continental Cups (i.e. CAMTRI, ETU, etc.)
6. ITU World Cups
7. ITU World Triathlon Series
A. Provincial Draft Legal Events
Provincial Draft-Legal events, including Triathlon BC’s Project 2024, are integral to gaining draft legal experience. The Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) events identified on this calendar are ideal for that purpose. Athletes and coaches should target events in their province before looking to compete at the national level.
B. National Development Series Races
National Development Series Races are the next step on the progression from provincial racing. They bring together a deeper field with athletes from multiple provinces, and offer a higher quality-of-field by combining development level Junior, U23 and Elite athletes. There are four events that make up the 2018 National calendar:
1. Living Sky Triathlon, June 23rd, 2018
Saskatoon, SK (Western Qualifier to National Championships), Draft Legal Super Sprint heats/finals
2. Triathlon de Gatineau, July 7th, 2018
Gatineau, QC (Eastern Qualifier to National Championships), Draft Legal Super Sprint heats/finals
3. CAMTRI Mixed Relay Continental Cup, July 22nd, 2018
Toronto, ON (Mixed Relay National Championships), Draft Legal Semi-Final to Final Team Relay
4. CAMTRI Sprint Continental Cup, August 18th & 19th, 2018
Kelowna, BC (Triathlon Canada National Championships), Draft Legal Super Sprint to Sprint heats/finals
C. Eastern/Western Qualification Races (Saskatoon and Gatineau)
These events will both be held in heats/finals format. Athletes can choose to race at one or both events, with their best finish going towards priority selection to the National Championships. More details are available below in the section under “National Championships”.
Support to BC Team athletes will be provided based on the CSI-P level achieved.
