The Athlete of the Year Awards, founded by Sport BC, is the longest standing sport recognition event in Canada. Awards in 18 different categories are presented each year to athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers for their performance and contribution to sport in our province. The awards play a valuable role in nurturing athletic success and recognizing BC’s growing sports talent.
The annual Presidents’ Awards, now in its 25th year, are presented to volunteers from Sport BC member and partner organizations who represent the spirit of volunteerism, and whose dedication, energy and commitment contribute to the development of their sport or organization in the province of British Columbia.
This year’s recipient of the President’s Award is Rob Dibden. Rob is a life long Victoria resident and an original member of Human Powered Racing. He is a retired police officer and a NCCP certified triathlon coach with years of experience coaching in the local community. Rob has coached young triathletes from beginners to Junior Elites. Some of the young athletes that Rob has coached have gone on to represent Canada at the Olympics and the World Triathlon Championships.
As a Board member, Rob was the Director for Youth Development for Triathlon BC from 2002 to 2007. As an athlete he has represented Canada at the Age Group World Triathlon Championships at the Standard and Long Distance and has completed several Ironman distance events.
“Rob is a shining example of somebody that is deeply invested in the community and in our sport. From his time on the Board, to his involvement in coaching and event delivery, Rob is a most deserving recipient of the President’s Award,” proclaimed Duncan Wood, Chair, Triathlon BC.
Rob is an experienced event planner and is a driving force behind Human Powered Racing Events. He is the race director of the Triathlon of Compassion, the Victoria Youth Triathlon, SwimRun Victoria, and The HPR Youth Triathlon West Shore. Rob is committed to the development of the sport of Triathlon and Human Powered Racing.
On behalf of Triathlon BC, thanks for making our sport community great!
