Triathlon Canada’s Age Group National Team qualifying process is changing with the start of the 2018 race season, affecting 2019 World Championship events.
Athletes looking to represent Canada at any International Triathlon Union’s World Championships, have two options;
A.) Athletes can participate in an event that is designated as a World Championship qualifier, and finish in the 1, 2 or 3 spots, based on how many ‘spots’ are available at the event. For example, if an event has 3 qualifying spots per age group, the top 3 athletes of each gender with a current annual provincial membership, may qualify. As in previous years, athletes must be members PRIOR to registering for the event.
B.) Athletes can also elect to purchase a Charity Spot, that will become available in the fall. Charity entries will be restricted to a maximum of 35 entries, made up of unclaimed spots in available age categories.
Triathlon BC is working hard in conjunction with provincial Race Directors in securing as many qualifying opportunities in British Columbia as possible, and hopes to post a complete listing of ITU World Championship qualifying events before the end of the year.
