VICTORIA—Canada’s top triathletes in all race categories will be swimming, biking and running across Canada this summer as Triathlon Canada rolled out its 2022 Domestic Event Schedule on Monday.

The Triathlon Canada Nation will gather at the elite Canadian Triathlon Championships, July 9, at the Triathlon de Gatineau présenté par Première Générale near the Nation’s Capital in Gatineau, Que. It will be the first time since the pandemic put a hold on domestic competitions following the 2019 season that Triathlon Canada stages an elite national championship.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be able to reconnect with our community while working with our provincial sport partners to develop a full slate of racing opportunities for thousands of triathletes to test their limits across the country,” said Lucy Smith, interim chief executive officer, Triathlon Canada. “Hosting major events for athletes in all corners of Canada is critical to the continued growth of our sport.”

Age Group National Championships will also be held for Cross Triathlon, Standard Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon and Multisport. Each Age Group National Championships will have three qualification spots per gender/age category up for grabs for the 2023 Age Group World Championships in the respective race disciplines.

Triathlon Canada will also play host to two major international Competitions.  The 2022 World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships will bring elite and age group athletes from around the world to Montreal’s Grand Quai from June 22nd to 26th.  This new addition to the World Triathlon racing circuit will feature short-course races including the exciting mixed team relay that debuted at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Montreal will then host the second stop of the World Triathlon Para Series on July 8.  The world’s best paratriathletes will converge on Montreal’s world-renowned Parc Jean Drapeau; swimming and running at the Olympic rowing basin and riding on the famed Formula 1 track.

“Hosting major events at the highest level of competition provides home field advantage for our elite athletes, and provides additional international race opportunities for our next generation of rising stars,” added Smith.

A comprehensive program for Age Group World Championship qualification events is back on track for 2022 as the Triathlon Canada Nation makes its return to sport.  Nearly 40 events across Canada are already confirmed with several provinces still working with their race organizers to round out the calendar.  These highly sought-after spots will qualify Canadian Age Group athletes to the 2023 World Triathlon Championship events.  Please visit Triathlon Canada’s event calendar for full details which will continue to be updated:
