COVID-19 RETURN TO SPORT
On January 25th, 2022, B.C.’s Provincial Health Office announced updates to their COVID-19 response related to sport. To reflect these changes, viaSport has updated the Return to Sport Restart 2.0 chart with the following details and helpful reminders to keep the sport community safe.
The new Order is summarized below:
- As of February 1, sport tournaments for youth 21 and under are allowed with the following requirements:
- Spectators: seated and standing capacity is at 50%
- Proof of vaccination and mask guidance remain in place.
- Tournaments for adults 22 and older will stay on pause for now.
Other important reminders:
COVID-19 safety plans are no longer required for the volunteer sport environment, but clubs must follow their facilities’ guidance/plans and should consider having a communicable disease plan in place. Sport organizations that are also workplaces must follow WorkSafe guidance and make their COVID-19 safety plans publicly available. The PHO has updated its Workplace Safety order here.
The BC CDC has the latest information on what to do if you test positive.
The additional restrictions in Northern Health and Fraser East Order have recently ended. All regions in the province are the same for sport, which means there are no more region-specific health orders.
