Event Day: May 20th, 2023

The goal of the Hyde Creek Spirit Triathlon is to inspire and excite elementary school students to work together towards a goal and reach the finish line. This event is for students of all abilities – you don’t need to be an ‘athlete’ to complete a triathlon!

Students can complete the triathlon on their own, or TEAM UP with their peers and each do one part of the triathlon (swim, bike, or run). The team event has proven most popular – as it provides students who may not identify as athletes a fun and safe opportunity to participate in a new event. Everyone can go into the event striving to have fun, work together, support their school, and cheer on all their classmates along the way. Both individual and team participants will reach the finish line with a huge sense of accomplishment and come away from the event feeling empowered and confident.

Individual or Team Relay: Students, grades 2 to 5, can compete two ways; They can race as individuals and do all three sports (swim, bike and run), or they can choose to do part of the race and be on a relay team. Team members can consist of students from different grades i.e., grade 2 swimmer, grade 5 biker, and grade 3 runner.  The distances are as follows:

Distances: All grades will complete the same distance: Swim 100m, Bike 3km, Run 800m

*100m swim = 4 laps of pool. Kick boards or noodles are allowed. Please note, to ensure your child’s safety during the swim, we will need an accurate swim time. Please go to the pool and time your child swimming 100m and submit it with their registration.

Practice Session: On May 6th at 8am there will be a race route practice for any student who will be running and/or biking. Bikers will also be taught triathlon safety rules “bike on”, “bike off,” keep a safe distance, and how to pass safely. We need parent volunteers at this practice to supervise the students on the bike and run routes. Not to worry, this will be at a leisurely pace for students to familiarize themselves with the routes.

Cost: This first year event will have a special introductory cost of $20 per individual event, or $30 total per team relay event ($10 for each individual sport per team)
Financial assistance is available (i.e., registration fee will be waived if needed). Contact your school triathlon coordinator if you need financial assistance.

You can register for a team event even if you don’t have a team. Students who want to participate on a relay team but have not formed one will be put on a relay team by their school triathlon coordinators.

On race day, parents are required to supervise their child and can cheer them on. Can’t wait to see you all there!
