Volunteers are the heart of amateur sport in British Columbia. Their passion, dedication, and countless hours of behind-the-scenes work make it possible for athletes of all ages and abilities to chase their goals, find community, and experience the joy of multisport. This year, Triathlon BC is proud to recognize two outstanding individuals whose selfless commitment exemplifies the very best of volunteerism. Long-time member and official Linda Wong and Peach Classic Triathlon race director Dave Michael have each made an enduring impact on our sport, strengthening events, supporting participants, and elevating the multisport community across the province.

Their leadership reminds us that great events do not happen by accident—they are built by people who choose to give their time, skills, and heart back to their community. As we celebrate Linda and Dave, we encourage athletes, families, and supporters across BC to get involved: volunteer at a local race, support your community club, or lend a hand wherever you can. Every act of service helps keep our events strong, vibrant, and accessible, ensuring the next generation of athletes can thrive.

“Volunteers are the backbone of every success story in sport,” said Allan Prazsky, Executive Director of Triathlon BC. “Linda and Dave represent the spirit that keeps multisport thriving in our province, and we hope their example inspires others to step forward and support their local events, whether it’s a small, club-based introduction to triathlon, or a global event the world is watching, volunteers make sport happen.”

Whether contributing thoughtful insight at General Meetings, reviewing policies, or donning the official’s uniform on race day, she brings dedication and integrity to everything she does.

As a Level 2 International Technical Official, Linda has officiated events at every level — from local youth races and high school track meets to international competitions. Most recently, she was selected to represent Canada at the 2025 World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong, Australia, a testament to her expertise and respect within the sport. Volunteer of the Year – Dave Michael

A lifelong athlete and passionate advocate for sport, Dave has dedicated decades to enriching the athletic community. From his early days as a competitive cross-country skier—racing at the National level—Dave experienced firsthand the power of support, mentorship, and community. That experience ignited a lifelong commitment to giving back.

Dave has served on the Boards of Directors for ski clubs in both Ontario and British Columbia, as well as coached, mentored, and sponsored numerous athletes who have competed at all levels of sport.

As a father, Dave supported his children across a wide range of sports, including skiing, swimming, triathlon, soccer, and running—often stepping in as a coach and always cheering from the sidelines. His passion for sport is matched by his professional expertise in marketing, logistics, risk management, and team leadership, all of which he brings to every volunteer role.

For the past two years, Dave took on the demanding role of volunteer Race Director for the Peach Classic Triathlon, while maintaining a full-time career. As if that weren’t enough, this past year, he also trained for and completed an 18-kilometre ultra swim—an extraordinary personal feat that reflects his enduring athletic spirit.

Dave’s unwavering dedication, extensive knowledge, and generous spirit have made a lasting impact on the triathlon community and beyond.

Triathlon BC and the entire multisport community are deeply grateful for the countless volunteer hours, leadership, and heart both Linda and Dave display throughout the year!
