Through the cackle of a short-wave marine radio: All Stations, All Stations!  This is Triathlon BC, we repeat, Triathlon BC, with a special announcement for all Members:

It is with regret that we bid a fond farewell to Andrew Armstrong, Triathlon BC’s Technical Director for over a decade, as he hoists anchor and sets off to dip his toe in the Atlantic Ocean.

Andrew, originally from Birmingham, England (2 km from the park which will be the host site of the triathlon in the upcoming Commonwealth Games), emigrated to Montreal where he spent his formative years before enlisting in the Canadian Coast Guard.  From serving as a cadet on a 2 masted brigantine to escorting a tanker while in command of an Icebreaker, from being stationed in Ottawa to a post in the Solomon Islands, Andrew has had an interesting and exciting career, yet he still managed to find time to be involved in triathlon.

Andrew has done everything from serving as the Canadian team manager for international events to officiating at the 2015 Pan Am Games and 2016 Paralympics to acting as a Doping Control Officer for CCES.  He has shared his vast knowledge with countless officials through both teaching PTO courses and mentoring on the Field of Play.  After moving from the Lower Mainland to the Interior, Andrew continued to expand his service roles by becoming a First Responder for the local fire department.

While he is indeed moving, it is not to find relaxation as he will continue in his role as a Doping Control Officer as well as seeking ways to develop officials in the Maritimes.

Thank you for being part of our sport in BC and across Canada.  Your vast knowledge and leadership in developing Officials will be truly missed.
