During times like these, physical and mental health is a top priority. While the doors at Fortius Sport & Health are temporarily closed to protect the health of our community,  the Centre continues to guide our members with knowledge nuggets to help get us through this unprecedented period.

Can You Boost Your Immune System Through Diet?

The short answer? No.

Dietitians of Canada do not endorse any foods, supplements nor health product that can “boost your immune system”. The Government of Canada has not approved any product that cures, treats or prevents COVID-19.

What you can do to help support your immune system:

1. FRUITS & VEGGIES

When possible, include fruits and vegetables daily. Frozen and canned are great options! Those foods have a high nutrient content as they are picked and frozen or canned when they are at their most nutritious.

2. EAT & DRINK WATER, REGULARLY

Even if your appetite is low, ensure you are eating and drinking (mainly water) regularly—even if it is small meals.

3. REDUCE STRESS

Stress can have a huge impact on our immune system and affect our appetite.

If you have a compromised immune system or chronic disease, please continue to follow the nutrition advice from your dietitian, doctor or nurse practitioner. Contact your health care provider to see if these services are available to you online.
