VICTORIA, BC — Triathlon BC is proud to announce that pioneer and multisport icon Melanie McQuaid has been named to the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

A trailblazer in off-road and endurance triathlon, McQuaid is a five-time World Champion, a three-time XTERRA World Champion (2003, 2005, 2006) and a two-time ITU Cross Triathlon World Champion (2011, 2017). Over a career spanning more than three decades, the Victoria native captured over 50 professional victories across triathlon, mountain biking, road cycling, and cyclocross.

In 2023, McQuaid made history by qualifying for and racing in the elite professional field at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii at age 50, becoming the first 50-year-old athlete in history to do so.

“Melanie has long been a defining force in Canadian triathlon and an inspiration to generations of athletes,” said Duncan Wood, Board Chair of Triathlon BC. “Her induction into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame is a well-deserved recognition of her competitive drive, her durability at the highest levels of global sport, and her ongoing contributions as a mentor and coach to our community.”

Beyond her competition record, McQuaid continues to shape the sport through her coaching practice, MelRad Coaching, mentoring age-groupers and elites alike, and serving as an advocate for lifelong athletic development.

The 32nd Annual Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on November 7, 2026.
