The Peach Classic Triathlon, like so many other provincially sanctioned events, has proven that it’s more than a race; it’s a powerful driver of tourism, economic activity, and community pride in Penticton and beyond.

According to a newly released Economic Impact Assessment Report by Sport Tourism Canada, the 2025 Peach Classic, a single-day, multisport event, generated over $570,000 in economic activity for British Columbia, with nearly $500,000 benefiting Penticton directly.

By the Numbers

  • $393,000 in combined visitor and organizer spending.
  • $300,000+ in visitor spending, with the largest share on accommodations (45.5%) and restaurants (21.6%).
  • 765 out-of-town visitors, 86% of whom stayed overnight, averaging 2.9 nights.
  • $280,000 in added GDP for BC, including $223,000 for Penticton.
  • $125,000 in tax revenues across all levels of government.
  • $146,000 in wages and salaries supported in Penticton.

A Proven Tourism Driver

The report revealed that 71% of visitors came solely because of the Peach Classic, and 90% indicated they are likely to return to Penticton. This demonstrates the triathlon’s ability to not only boost the local economy on race weekend but also strengthen Penticton’s position as a destination for future tourism.

A Growing Legacy

First held in 1983, the Peach Classic is Canada’s longest-running triathlon. Following a rebranding in 2022, the event has seen remarkable growth—from fewer than 300 athletes in 2022 to nearly 800 in 2025. This revitalization has positioned the Peach Classic as a cornerstone of Canada’s multisport calendar, backed by strong community support, dedicated volunteers, and committed sponsors.

Why It Matters for Stakeholders

For municipal leaders, sponsors, and partners, the Peach Classic offers more than brand visibility. It delivers:

  • Demonstrated ROI through direct spending, tax revenue, and job support.
  • Tourism promotion by attracting hundreds of overnight visitors.
  • Community impact by fostering local pride, volunteer engagement, and spotlighting healthy living.

“The Peach Classic Triathlon is proof that sport tourism drives significant value for municipalities across the province. Not only do our events celebrate athletic achievement and physical well-being, they bring new visitors, supports local businesses, and strengthens community pride. We’re excited to see the numbers confirm what we’ve always known, that the Peach Classic, like all of our events, are an economic and cultural cornerstone for communities,” said Allan Prazsky, Triathlon BC Executive Director.

Looking Ahead

With clear evidence of its economic value, Triathlon BC’s sanctioned events continue to be a strategic opportunity for sponsors and stakeholders who want to align with growth, community, and sustainability across the province and beyond.
