Note: Each qualifying event offers one automatic qualifying spot per gender per age group — which are age-adjusted based on how old you’ll be at the World Championships.
The Expression of Interest (EOI) Process
Before you can chase a qualifying slot, you must complete an EOI for the event — usually opening three weeks prior to the race and closing the Friday before.
This tells Triathlon Canada you want to compete for a WC spot. Even if you don’t secure a direct spot on race day, this puts you in the pool for roll-down spots later in the season.
Roll-down spots go to athletes who placed high enough (only within the top 8 in your age group) at qualifying races once automatic qualification is complete.
Age Adjustments & Why They Matter
Race results are adjusted into 5-year age groups based on how old you’ll be on Dec 31 of the WC year (e.g., 2027). This means your age group for qualifying might differ from your race-day age group.
This age-adjustment can affect who qualifies and emphasizes the importance of understanding age-category calculation.
Training & Race Strategy Tips
- Target races early in the season with good qualifying history.
- Aim for consistency and top age-group finishes — even if you don’t win, strong placements can lead to roll-down.
- Stay on top of EOI deadlines – missing the EOI means you can’t qualify at that race!
- Check age categories carefully. Your WC age group is based on December 31, 2027.
