Whether you’re preparing for your first triathlon or looking to improve your race-day performance, this 90-minute, hands-on Transition Clinic will help you develop the skills needed to navigate transition quickly, safely, and confidently.

Transitions are often referred to as the fourth discipline of triathlon. With the right techniques and practice, you can save valuable time on race day.

This clinic is designed for both, new participants – with no previous racing experience – to the sport and seasoned triathletes alike, and provides a supportive learning environment where questions are encouraged and practical experience is the focus.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN: 

During this interactive clinic, participants will learn how to:

  • Set up an efficient and organized transition area
  • Navigate Transition 1 (Swim to Bike) and Transition 2 (Bike to Run)
  • Safely handle your bike in transition
  • Mount and dismount your bike with confidence
  • Understand common race-day rules and avoid penalties
  • Develop a consistent transition routine you can use at every race

Participants will also complete multiple practice transitions with coaching and feedback to reinforce good habits and build confidence.

WHAT TO BRING:

Please bring the equipment you would normally race with:

  • Bicycle
  • Helmet (mandatory)
  • Running shoes
  • Cycling shoes (optional)
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle
  • Hat or visor (optional)
  • Race belt (if you have one)
  • Small towel

About the Coach: Alex Northey is a Vancouver based triathlete competing since 2019 in everything from sprint to Ironman distances. He was the Race Director of the UBC Triathlon in 2024 & 2025 and has worked for the T100 and Ironman. Alex has an depth of knowledge as both a participant and as an organizer and always love to help people whether it’s their first or fiftieth race. No question is silly and no detail too small.
