Triathlon BC is thrilled to have achieved the “Accredited” status in viaSport’s Designation Program for 2023!
What does the Accredited designation mean to Triathlon BC? To strengthen the quality of amateur sport and to steward the Government’s investment in it, a framework was established to identify the minimum quality standards required for eligibility in the viaSport Designation Program, which has three categories depending on the size and reach of the sport, as well as the maturity of the organization.
Obtaining and maintaining a viaSport designation holds each sport organization accountable to these standards, annually. The three categories are Accredited, Recognized and Affiliated. To receive an accredited designation means an organization is reputable, trustworthy, and committed to operational excellence through high-quality sport delivery, adhering to standards, promoting inclusion, safety, and diversity and providing resources to enable the growth and development of sport.
Through the sanctioning and hosting of events, and the training and development of coaches and officials, viaSport designated sport organizations help to advance the Ministry’s Pathways to Sport and create sport experiences that are welcoming and safe.
Not all sport organizations apply, meet, nor receive, this designation. Once a designation is provided, viaSport ensures compliance through annual reporting and reviews as well as through more comprehensive evaluations conducted every three years.
Achieving Accredited status means Triathlon BC is eligible for annual core funding from the Province of BC, exclusive engagement opportunities, is designated by the National Sport Organization as the provincial organizing body in BC, and, most importantly, builds trust and confidence with athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, media and sponsors.
