Triathlon Canada is committed to selecting an Age Group World Championship Team using clear selection methods. The goal of the Age Group World Championships Qualification Program is to develop a strong domestic calendar of high caliber events that provides an opportunity for Canadian age group athletes to progress to the highest level of competition in age group racing.

An Expression of Interest (EOI) is the mechanism by which athletes confirm their intent to race for and accept an Age Group World Championship spot should they qualify. By expressing intent, results can be matched against a final list of those athletes who want to attend the World Championships, and spots can be “rolled-down”. The EOI application will open 3 weeks prior to each race and will close at 8am on race day.

All athletes looking to compete for a spot must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) prior to each qualification event. An EOI page will be available specific to each event and discipline(s) hosted.

It is HIGHLY recommended that you read the full TEAM SELECTION POLICY prior to registration.

What do you need to know about qualifying for Age Group World Championship Events? Athletes are responsible for the following:

  • You must be a current, annual member of Triathlon BC or a member of another Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) prior to competition.
  • Expression of Interest (EOI) must be submitted to Triathlon Canada with a non-refundable athlete fee paid prior to competition.
  • An Expression of Interest (EOI) page will be set up by Triathlon Canada specific to each province with the list of qualification events. Learn more about how to submit an EOI.

What do you need to know about Age Groups?

1.) British Columbia has an incredible number of qualifiers in 2024; 12 unique qualifying opportunities are available throughout the season, the most in Canada! Qualifying spots are offered in 5-year age groups e.g. women 40-44, men 45-49 etc.

Note: Race Day standings do not mean you have a qualifying spot in your age category.

2.) Qualifying spots are AGE ADJUSTED to December 31st, 2025. If there is one qualifying spot per age group, per gender, the fastest finishing athlete as of age adjusted results that has submitted an expression of interest will then be considered an ‘automatic qualifier’.

3.) Automatic qualifiers will be notified by Triathlon Canada directly. If you believe you have qualified and do not receive a notification within one month, please contact agegroupteams@triathloncanada.com.

4.) Skip over to Triathlon Canada’s Expression of Interest to indicate your interest to wear the Maple Leaf in the 2025 World Championships!

Note 1:  With limited age group qualifying spots available throughout Canada, expect events to fill early.  Early registration, where available, is recommended.

Note 2:  To be eligible to secure a World Championship spot, athletes must be members of their provincial triathlon association (i.e. Triathlon BC) PRIOR to competing in the qualifying event.

Note 3:  Age-groups are categorized according to gender and 5-year age brackets (i.e. 20-24, 25-29, 30 – 34 etc.)

Note 4:  If an event has 3 qualifying spots per age group, the top 3 athletes of each gender with a valid annual provincial and Triathlon Canada membership for each age-adjusted age category are qualifiers. Similarly, if an event has 1 qualifying spot, only the first athlete of each gender and age category will qualify.
